Montage, by choice…for Prospephone; and an award

I know this image will be culturally opaque to many non-Hindus. I am not a religious guy at all, as someone from my country said “I don’t believe in God, I believe in my countrymen who believe in God”. I am an atheist who is discovering inklings of spiritual yearnings within my self…there might be ‘atheist spiritual yearnings’. Tradition play minimal roles in my world-view; but images we give birth to – in our curious third-world existence where the ritualistic sometimes peep into the cosmopolitan – are so evocative!
This image is culled from one of the moments of Hindu marriage…I know those hands and I like the watch ticking within…
For Prospephone who commented here twice.
And to add a few things more…
I should thank the beautiful-in-a-sublime way Goldenferi of Love Letters who has included me in an award-list along with two of my favorite bloggers, one who writes beautifully, another who remains beautifully silent for long! I am preparing a post on my favorite blogs. But it feels uneasy to choose, and thus keep aside so many wonderful bloggers. So I will just be random, with a secret method in my randomness. I forward this to Samantha, Ani, Shahrzad, Heather, GeekPornGirl, Enreal, LostRealist, K.M. Ryan, CJwriter and CafeDog.
An Award for you ALL.

Please take this award with my gratitude, feel free to pass it on to other Global Bloggers. Please do NOT change any links, add to the list if you like but if you copy this list please leave it unchanged.
All I ask is that you link back to here as the original point of reference
Lots of names on this list, are you among them?

I say be careful of Atheism and embrace the spiritual yearnings…America is a place with too many anti-spiritual atheists. However, theirs is a religion of base desires of which money-making is usually the most important. They really don’t like to think of anything beyond what they can touch–you really don’t strike me as one of those people.
As for the picture, very nice montage. I, too, like the visual contradictions of modern life. I caught a picture one time when I was in Ireland of a viking re-enactment group member in full traditional clothes with a bottle of coca-cola in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I should post it sometime…
Its a tragedy that you choose to follow atheism, when Hindu philosophy has facets like Advaitha (whose center is not far from your house), which are perfectly compatible with modern science and correctly proclaim that you and god are one and the same. Swami Vivekananda stunned many scientists in the USA when he explained advaitha to them as no one was able to find inconsistencies with science. Unlike other religions which ask people to accept things as a matter of faith, Advaitha encourages questioning it. It is also unfortunate that you chosen not to go through your own scriptures before claiming there is no god.Atheism is a dangerous value to inculcate into children as they may fall prey to the malicious teachings of Islam. Nice photo though!
Thank you, the picture is exquisite. You’re right though, the image wouldn’t appeal to most non-hindus but i guess I’m in luck for i happen to be a hindu and a bengali. Fortunately or unfortunately I have also lost my faith in God, which is funny because being schooled in a typical “neo-colonial” Catholic Convent, I till a year ago had no doubt in God’s existence. But now religion doesn’t seem anything more than a way to prepare man for facing the inevitable, that is , death. But sometimes I wonder, if heaven and hell are just stories, simply a myth which is common to so many cultures, what happens after death? Is it the end of human conciousness too? Is man then mere animal, a bag of flesh and bones? The possibility scares me.
By the way, have you heard the song “Follow me” by John Denver? I used to think that it is the perfect definition of how a marriage should be.
Life’s Elsewhere: Welcome Prospephone. Yes, religion…just read modern mullah’s comment above and you will have an inkling that religion probably leads us lesser to peace and answers to our questions this days. I wish to differentiate between religion and spiritualism; I see the latter as a rigorous intellectual order…recalling the Sufis, Vaishnavs, Bauls and so many other instances of rebelling against the autocracy of official/institutional religions like mainstream Islam and ur-Hinduism. And being a Indian writer who occasionally dabbles in the poetic process the Bhakti and Sufi movement is nothing but a rich legacy to me.
And Denver’s “Follow Me”…I should follow it!
Hi!
I’m in..
saluti from Italy!
Life’s Elsewhere: Welcome Hanna! Regrets I don’t know Italian…you are a beautiful woman!
Hey …thought i’d stop by to break the silence
Life’s Elsewhere: And you are welcome! Incidentally, I scrutinized and concluded that you do write regularly. Then why was that impression of mine? Strange things happen to the eyes…
much obliged, sir.
Thank you. I appreciate you including me.
Cheers!
