Greetings from Pentasect (www.pentasect.com)! Pentasect is a bilingual online cultural ezine inviting writers and readers of English and Bengali in a journey of Cultural Documentation of Conemporary Bengal. Currently, we deal only English and Bengali but would like to invite writers and readers of other languages interested in other themes.

We also invite writers to showcase their books in our platform – completely free because we publish as an e-book. We can also get them printed, even a single copy or short runs of 10s, 20s at an afforable cost using the current Print on Demand (PoD) Technology.

We want to have you and your friends as a partner in our mission of bringing writers and readers together to explore not only the love of books (when it used to smell) but also of those new ones that come with their own lighting device (e-book)

Best Regards

Hello, I trawled through the internet too looking for what other people were thinking of the film. That was a few months ago. The way you look at the film is so beautiful. If language is to evoke sensation: memory, emotion, yours did. I wish I could do it as well.

Life's Elsewhere: Thanks Hack!!! Sorry for not noticing that I have a new comment...sorry it appeared late.

Wow. Well, I guess I've been MIA for a little while which is why I missed this one. Anytime I read what you write of your city it makes me want to go there. Magical places beget magical characters. As for the myth from the artist's website (it is a beautiful picture too) it is a bit harder than the story I'm used to. That's because it's the Roman version of an originally Greek myth. Here's the final line from the wikipedia version:

"Since Apollo could no longer take her as his wife, he promised to tend her as his tree, promising that he would use his powers of eternal youth to make sure that she would always stay green, and since then the leaves of the Bay laurel tree have never known decay."--I like this a bit better, even though it may be more optimistic than real life.

Love reaches another plane. Some houses crumble, others appear. The style foxes me, honestly; you have delicately swayed between the archaic, the modern and the postmodern, a kind of divine urge in some places and a sense of ironic humour in others.

Life's Elsewhere: Thanks Inam. I think I will be posting some Bengali poems in the next few posts.

Wow, amazing. I don't think you should say aborted. I read the whole thing before I read the title/explanation and it actually seemed like an ending to me.

To me the poem seems a debate between planning and doing, living and thinking, body and its impulses and the mind or soul and its desire to understand. The rhymes are very subtle. It makes me want to sing the song, although no tune comes to mind...

Life's Elsewhere: Oooh! Welcome back Lou!

You know, the only person I loved in the movie was Paro..she was amazing. That is what women are if they let themselves be. And the bangla is because I am still full of Cal..sigh. Couldn't get over all those people speaking bangla everywhere! :) Maybe from now on I will only comment in bangla on your blog, eh?

Life's Elsewhere: Nischoyi! You are welcome! :)
Am thinking of uploading few bangla posts too...

Well I could tell that you got really excited, karon tumi generally eto ogochalo lekho na. Its not that this isn't good. Its very apt actually, I felt your "vague, sketchy, disorganized first impressions" is exactly what a film of this nature demanded.

This piece is wonderful. You really gazed into the heart of this film. And I was left either instantly agreeing with you, or agreeing with you after the intellectual gratification had seeped in. Really good work!

Life's Elsewhere: I am excited with Kashyap's work Ritwik. These are vague, sketchy, disorganized first impressions. Intend to write more.

If the girl has got all the answers its probably because she is viewing things from a different perspective. The search begins anew where one tends to feel "There is nothing worth searching".- a new search with an altered vision. This quest in turn is made possible by all that binds us down. The whole thing is like an enormous circle. That girl can answer only because she knows the questions.

I don't think it's confusion. Its that ancient play between the chains and the wings...to fly free one must have felt the hard shackles on one's limbs too, else the flight would lose its meaning.

"What are you searching for in the
Cleavages of cloud..."

these opening lines are insane, and the search begins within. I think you will never find the final stanza, for then, the universe shall end.

Life's Elsewhere: Probably. I struggled with this for weeks and then pragmatically decided to give it up. The photograph reminded me of the swinging sequence of Satyajit Ray's Charulata and Jean Renoir’s Une Partie de Campagne (which I previously referred to here). Okay, lemme link to the video!

This is the first time I have visited your blog and I must say I will have to visit it frequently from now on. This longish eclectic piece was an interesting read and it had some brilliant phrases. The videos and the links enriched the whole reading experience! :)

Life's Elsewhere: Thanks Torsa! I am not writing much these days. Do read my earlier ones.
